Learning
The standard of education your child receives is very important to us.
At West Hallam Village Pre-School, the children work towards a set of learning goals. We are required to adhere to a curriculum - however, our planning is done in such a way that whilst we meet these goals we promote our ethos of learning through play.
By working with you, we aim to make your child's time with us a happy and fulfilling experience.
The main six learning areas are:
- Personal, social and emotional development.
- Communication, language and literacy.
- Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy.
- Knowledge and understanding of the world.
- Physical development.
- Creative development.
Pre-School is a fun time for parents, children and staff alike and we assure all parents that the care and development of your child is paramount to us.
Learn 2 Play
Our Learn 2 Play Session takes place on a Monday morning and is for children aged 2 years +.
This session is designed to allow your child to settle into Pre-School in a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, so that when they reach 2½ years, they will progress to our normal sessions with ease.
We currently have spaces available. If you are interested, please feel free to come along and visit during our session.
Sessions
Our sessions include:
- free play;
- table-top play;
- a making activity table;
- healthy snacks and drinks;
- story time;
- singing time; and
- outside play.
All Pre-School settings that receive funding for the education of children aged 3 and 4 are required to offer a high quality provision and plan activities and experiences that help children make progress in their development and learning.
Young children will have had a wide range of different experiences and will have a varied range of skills and interests when they join our Pre-School. The Pre-School has to provide a curriculum to take their learning forward and to provide opportunities for all children to succeed in an atmosphere of care and of feeling valued.
Monitoring of each child's progress throughout their Pre-School life (Foundation Stage) is essential to ensure that they are making progress and that particular difficulties in any of the areas of learning, whatever the cause, are identified.
Key Person
When a child starts Pre-School you will meet with your child's key person, so they can explain in more detail the daily sessions and curriculum, which will allow you the chance to discuss your child's development and any concerns.
Special Educational Needs
If your child requires additional help our staff are qualified and skilled. The Pre-School will be happy to help with the development of your child's needs and our staff have gained Special Needs training.
If you have any concerns about your child please speak to their key person. If any steps are needed to benefit your child's welfare, the staff will liaise with you throughout your child's time with us.
Starting School
The Pre-School has strong links with all the local schools.
Regular meetings are held with the staff from Scargill (C of E) Primary. The Head Teacher and Reception teachers visit our sessions to meet the children starting school the following September and visits are made to school to familiarise the children.
Lunch Club
Our lunch club runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and means that children can bring their own packed lunch and drink and stay at Pre-School for a full day.
The lunch club represents a social time for the children to eat together and it allows them to gain confidence and independence in their eating.
